Jan started teaching in the kitchen in 1990 while I was building a studio out in the garage. The Siskiyou Saxophone Quartet hails from that time.
Middle & high school students came from all over the valley for private lessons. All were involved in playing ensemble music with each other...there were SO many different Sax Bands. We always played SOMEA Solo-Ensemble Contests, individually and as a group, then we would go bowling.
The Studio also presented student recitals on Adolphe Sax's birthday, Christmas Concert at Potluck at the Grange, the Solo-Ensemble Prep Concert and a Jazz Concert at the end of the academic year.
Jan was adjunct saxophone instructor at SOU from 1995-1998.
The saxophone was patented June 28, 1846 by Belgian instrument maker, Adolphe Sax (1814-1984). The first member of the family was the Bass. Other members include the well-known Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone. Rare saxes included the Bass, Sopranino, Contra Bass, and the C Melody that was wildly popular 100 years ago in the 1920's.
First and foremost, we work on Air and Tone Production.
